Health Nut: Finding Healthy AND Happy

Food. It’s beautiful and dangerous. Life-giving and deadly. Freeing and enslaving. To be enjoyed…but with a little discernment and moderation. You can end up on one side of this topic or the other, depending on how you view and handle it. Food has the power to enslave you, whether you are TOO fearful of it…or not concerned enough. There is certainly a balance to be found.

And see, personally, I don’t just have to work through how to feed myself…that’s not too difficult as it’s a passion of mine to figure out just how healthy, organic, and moderated my food choices can be…I love it! I thrive on it! It’s basically my hobby. BUT how to keep my husband and three little boys healthy AND happy with the food I prepare is something else all together. I refuse to feed them a regular diet of junk, but I also don’t want them hating food because I was too obsessed over every little thing they eat. Ah, such a balance.

You see…as a SAHM (Stay At Home Mom), this is my daily grind. It’s a lot of what I do around the laundry, dishes, diapers, and constant mess cleanup. Three meals a day, snacks in-between, and generally at least a little sweet before bed. Don’t judge me. 

I have lots to learn, but maybe a little bit to offer. So far it’s been a six year journey of marriage and kids and trying every different method to keep them fed and content, but fit and thriving. I’ve done LOTS of experimenting…just ask my husband.

See, here’s the thing… God gave us food. To sustain us. To bring us joy. To bless us. And I want to find and share some of the best ways to utilize this blessing. I want to seek out and share how food can bring freedom and blessing rather than bondage and discouragement. And keep in mind… this yoke can even be enslavement to a certain diet or lifestyle that steals your joy or makes you ungrateful for certain foods AS WELL as enslavement to the habit of sticking junk in your body because you feel you just can’t help it or you simply don’t want to help it. Don’t think you’re necessarily in the safe zone of fully appreciating the blessing food can be simply because you’ve eaten nothing but whole foods for the last 10 years. Let’s take a freeing look at food. Let’s experiment. Let’s try new things. Let’s take a DEEP BREATH and start from scratch. Literally. Let’s find out the best ways to utilize the blessing God has given us and eat freely of this delicious gift!
