A “Red Wave” Isn’t What We Need

As I watch tragedy after tragedy unfold before my eyes, I want to scream. It feels unfair. It feels wrong. It feels so incredibly unjust.

Our president has made decisions that have caused, are causing, and will continue to cause so much pain and suffering. It feels like such a helpless thing to watch.

I am grieved as Americans and their allies are left behind to suffer the consequences of our presidents actions… as families grieve for the loved ones they lost just days ago due to those same decisions.

I read an article this morning from the Washington Post (not some far right wing news outlet), about the lack of empathy our hurried President showed the grieving families of the military members that were lost due to choices he himself made. Some were willing to meet with him and some were not. But multiple families who were willing reported a president who spoke more of his own pain in losing a child (under very different circumstances), all while frequently checking his watch, rather than taking responsibility for his actions and truly grieving with these devastated families over their loss.

And as I watch the devastation the President is bringing upon our country it’s no comfort to hear what I’ve heard time and again since the last election: “Just wait till next time, the Republicans will show up in droves.” There’s no way Democrats will win again!” “Better get ready for a ‘red wave’!”

Can I just say loud and clear that the infamous “red wave” is not what we need in this country?

Here are a couple reasons why::

1. The “Red Wave” Already Happened

First, I believe with my whole heart that the “red wave” already occurred in the 2020 election. No one will ever be able to convince me, due to the mountain of evidence of foul play (some of which I’ve listed in previous blogs), as well as the complete lack of excitement for our current administration (even from the left), that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won more votes than anyone to ever run for the office. Almost no one is stepping up for this incredibly “popular” president and that is quite telling, in my opinion. So to think that MORE Republican votes will somehow fix this is ludicrous. I truly believe that the majority of America saw what would happen if Joe Biden took office and they did their part to keep that from happening. But to no avail.

Side note: I know some of you don’t agree, and I respect that. This will probably get me thrown out of algorithms for even mentioning it, but I cannot ignore the evidence and I believe it’s the truth.

When Former President Obama took actions I disagreed with, it didn’t sit quite so heavily. There was a part of me that felt our country had asked for it when he so obviously won the popular vote with no intervening necessary. I never once doubted that the man won the election. You could literally feel the excitement for the first president of color to take the office. Our country chose him and thusly rightly faced the consequences of any decisions he made.

It’s much harder to sit and see the heartbreak and suffering of so many as this tragedy in Afghanistan continues to unfold, when I so strongly believe the Commander & Chief making those decisions shouldn’t lawfully be holding the office in the first place.

A red wave means nothing if a manufactured blue wave can overcome it.

2. A Red Wave… or God’s Grace?

See, this is the hope I take. While I don’t believe our last elections were legitimate… I do believe God allowed them. Perhaps the majority of us didn’t choose Joe Biden for office, but despite our efforts to expose this fact, he has held the office and made decisions in accordance.

A wise man once told me that when hardship comes into our lives, it is for one of two reasons (especially in the lives of believers): God is either disciplining you or simply growing you through the pain. As God’s children, we can look around at this tragedy and know that its effect on our lives is not in vain.

“For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” Hebrews 12:6

As a believer, this season has caused me to see my own lack of zeal for the Gospel, my lack of love for those around me, my lack of passion to live each day fully, and the overall false sense of security I’ve been living in for so long. Has anyone else been shaken from a stupor they didn’t know they were in? Has anyone else realized a stagnant walk with the Lord because all of a sudden your world isn’t so perfect anymore?

And all of this can only be for good if we are driven to share with others the hope that we have. Praying for those around us:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

No matter a persons country or culture, no matter their background, no matter the ease or difficulty of their lives… we are all, theoretically, a moment from death and this short life offers nothing in comparison to eternity. If these circumstances have driven those of us living “Conservative, Christian” lives to think more seriously on what that means, to repent of hardened hearts and lack of zeal, to test our own salvation and then boldly share it with the world around us… if it’s taught us to discern our days and to speak truth in love, then it is God’s grace in our lives and thusly the lives of others as well.

And, while we ought to be taking practical steps for fair elections… it is God’s hand that ultimately prevails. And our only hope for relief and redemption in this country is appealing to His kindness, grace, and mercy, which we don’t deserve, but he loves to shower on broken and contrite hearts.

The ultimate fix is not a red wave, it’s God’s grace.

To Close

We need not waste what feels like such unjust circumstances. While taking practical and needful steps to try and assure justice is done, we must also:

~ See these days as painful blessings that will strengthen our weak hearts.

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4

~ Get out of our own little worlds and love bigger, feel deeper, and pray harder for those who are suffering… and those who cause the suffering.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Romans 12:15

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you… Matthew 5:44

~ Remember that justice will ultimately be served. Never fear that it won’t.

I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work. Ecclesiastes 3:17

~ Remember that God is Sovereign, nothing was stolen from Him, and He literally holds “the whole world in His hands”.

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. 1 Chronicles 29:11-12

As we see the injustice of our days, we need to realize that it is not ultimately a “red wave” that our country needs. It’s God’s grace… it’s the red blood of Christ… to redeem proud hearts, stagnant and dormant lives of faith, unrepentant sin (both of believers and unbelievers), deep seated wickedness and the plans of evil men.

May His grace fall like rain on this dry and weary land.
