VA Elections And Why We Must Keep Voting

I’m going to keep this brief.

Many people believe the 2020 Elections were pretty sketch.

Many conservatives believe that their vote no longer counts as election integrity has come under heavy speculation.

We watched numbers flip on screens, mail in ballots become the dangerously popular trend, a frightening amount of ballot counting halted for hours with no explanation and then a sudden switch in results… you know I could go on.

Many of us watched helplessly as questionable circumstance after questionable circumstance came into view and there was nothing we could do to stop it or fix it.

But here’s what scares me more than all of this…

It’s the phrase I’ve heard multiple times from conservatives in the past six months:

“If they don’t fix this, I’ll never vote again. My vote doesn’t matter anyway.”

Guys. Stop that. Just stop that.

I’m speaking especially to conservative Christians.

(Side Note: I know not all Christians see eye to eye on the 2020 Elections, so I’m speaking to those who DO feel the election lacked integrity.)

If the conservative victory we saw this morning in Virginia showed you nothing else, it’s that, in order to win, fraud or no fraud, WE HAVE TO SHOW UP.

We have to keep showing up.

Again, and again, and again.

We have to make it so that, if those in opposition want to win, they’ll have to fight for it… by fair play or not.

The moment we stop showing up is the moment those who stand against what we believe to be right will be in for a fair and easy win.

If you have a moral and spiritual ground for why you vote how you vote, and why you stand where you stand, then you keep on voting. Not because you can guarantee the win… not because you can guarantee you’ll be heard… and not because you can guarantee there will be no foul play.

You go and you vote and you take a stand, simply because God is sovereign over all and it’s the right thing to do.

When you forfeit your ability to speak, you forfeit the opportunity to act. As Christians we are simply called to speak truth and act righteously. Only God can change the tide, give the victory, conquer what’s wrong.

You go and you strive to make your voice heard, because the moment you don’t, those in opposition to that moral standing have won, and they’ve won fair and square.

The elections in VA show a state that got out there and voted. I’m sure there are Virginians that question the last election. I’m sure there are some frustrated and tired Virginians who don’t feel their voice has been heard in the recent months… but if those same Virginians had thrown up their hands and said, “What’s the use??? I’ll just stay home.” Todays results would have been much different.

I know, I know, some of you are probably like, “Girl! Stop with the politics!” And it’s probably hard to believe that I’ve never really been into such matters until the last two years or so. But we are now living in an era where politics have become the battle ground between moral right and wrong in some very real ways, and voting is one of the most peaceable ways we can stand for what we believe to be good and right and true.

I can’t quote Micah 6:8 enough:

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

These things are required of us… whether or not we feel heard… whether or not kindness is shown in return… whether or not our opinions or point of view win the day…

Because it’s not a matter of pride, it’s a matter of doing what’s right.

It’s a matter of creature standing uprightly before Creator, knowing we fought for justice, we sought to show kindness and strove to walk humbly as we did so.

It’s all we can do.

The results are in His very capable hands.

Then lastly, rest in the knowledge that the electing of men is not the end all:

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
    I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

 Put not your trust in princes,
    in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
    on that very day his plans perish.

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord his God,
who made heaven and earth,
    the sea, and all that is in them,
who keeps faith forever;
who executes justice for the oppressed,
    who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;
the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
    the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the sojourners;
    he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
    but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.

The Lord will reign forever,
    your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 146

Keep on keepin’ on, y’all. Love you!
