A Christian Response To The President

Only a few days ago, the president of the United States made some broad and stunning accusations.

He charged countless Americans with representing an “extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic. ”

President Biden alleged that, “[They] have made their choice. They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth, but in the shadow of lies.”

As everyone knows, this “threat” to which our President was referring were those so named the “MAGA Republicans”.

He named more specifically those who dare to deny that he fairly and legally won the 2020 election.

The President’s full address

It’s incredibly disturbing and disconcerting to hear such accusations leveled at so many Americans, especially from the leader of the free world.

It’s hard to know what to say or how to respond. It’s difficult not to give in to fear… or to the anger of being the target of such manipulative and misleading allegations.

Now, I certainly can’t offer a response for all such “MAGA Republicans”, as they are a vast group with varying thoughts, motivations, belief sets and world views.

Yet I’m very aware that quite a few concerned followers of Christ stand included in the camp here accused.

I’d Like To Offer This Encouragement

If you voted for Donald Trump but serve no King but Christ…

If you voted for a man but desire to see God honored above all…

If you voted your convictions…

If you saw beforehand what has now come, and voted in a way that you felt would lead our country away from this damning path…

If you peacefully questioned the validity of the elections out of a reasonable and honest concern for what is right and fair and true…

If you spoke out against disception and unlawful conduct for the sake of truth and your country…

If you were striving for the good of others and the glory of God…

Never fear false accusations or where they may lead. But rather, continue to walk in a manner that contradicts the lies being pedaled. Live lives that make it impossible to believe the accusations our President has set forth.

He said we embrace anger… let’s embrace self-control.

He said we thrive on chaos… let’s thrive instead on the peace of knowing we serve a sovereign God.

He said we live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies… let’s live instead with the intention of breaking through the darkness with the light of truth; dispelling lies at every corner.

May the President’s words never hold an ounce of truth amongst followers of Christ.

May we:

“Live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:12-14).

Having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. (1 Peter 3:16)

Let’s walk in the confidence, not of our political affiliation, but of our identity in Christ. And no matter what lies are spoken, may our accusers look at us and see only this.

God bless.
